Video Transcript for All You Need to Know About the Fat Tire Adapter Kit for Swagman G10 and E-Spec Bike Racks

Colin: Hey guys. It's Colin here at etrailer. Today, I'm going to take some time to show you guys the Fat Tire Adapter Kit for the Swagman G10 Platform Rack. Now, if you already own the G10 Platform Rack, and you've just recently invested in a fat-tire bike, well, you're going to want a way to carry it on your bike rack without having to invest in a brand new rack. Just more economical to just go ahead and get the adapter kit.So, you can see down here, we have a fat-tire bike loaded. This is going to increase the width of your tire to five inches of a carrying capacity for the bike rack.

However, you do want to keep in mind to still abide by the 45-pound weight limit of the bike rack. With our fat-tire bike up here, we are pretty close to it. This bike comes in at about 43 pounds, so it's just under, so that's going to be able to handle it.You can see the strap is just going to be much longer to get around those bigger wheels. You would still have that rubber space right there sitting on top of our wheel help make sure that this plastic strap doesn't rub up against it too much. With the fat-tire adapter kit, you're not going to lose any functionality of your bike rack, like our tilt-away feature still operates the same way.

Pull the latch, and it tilts away, holds their bike very well, and all the locks are still going to be the same. Nothing really changes with the bike rack. Now, you can see how much longer the strap is for those bigger tires. What's also really neat is that with this fat-tire cradle installed, if for some reason you still have a road bike or a mountain bike you want to take out, you can still use this cradle for it. You can see we have a slot for road bikes. We have the mountain bike sitting in that slot right there.

It's just going to be wider than your standard cradle to allow you to get those five-inch wide tires loaded up.It's going to have the same construction with a powder coat finish to help resist rust and corrosion. We're also still going to be able to adjust it back and forth. Really, the adapter kit is just these two cradles. You just replace the two cradles on whichever side you want to load your fat-tire bike, and then you're all done. This kit is just going to be one set of cradles, one for your front tire, one for your back.If you only got one fat-tire bike to carry, I would advise keeping it at the front of your bike rack closest to the vehicle.

When loading bikes, you just want to make sure you have the heaviest bike loaded first, and chances are if you're carrying a fat-tire bike right here, and you are going to use this other standard set of cradles, it's not going to be heavier than that front bike. If you do have two fat-tire bikes you want to load up, you're going to have to pick up an extra set of these cradles available here at etrailer.Well, thank you all for watching. That's going to do it for our look at the Fat Tire Adapter Kit for the Swagman G10 Bike Rack.

Evaluated several brands with first screening for weight capacity as our two bikes weigh in at about 60# each. Had decided on a particular rack, but noticed e-trailer’s little green chart at the end of the ad, indicating that it was not approved for fifth wheel trailers. We wanted to be able to use the rack on our fifth wheel, the 3/4 ton truck, or the Subaru Forester. The Swagman E-SPEC was the only rack that I found in a reasonable price range, that specifically indicated that it was approved for fifth wheel usage. The design of the rack is pretty good, and is built well. Took a bit to determine the right configuration of bikes on the rack.
As I have seen commented on other posts, not real happy that I had to buy two sets of Fat Tire cradles for $[XX] to replace those that came with the rack. Seems that Swagman should be able to sell a Fat Tire version OR standard.

by:

These are a great addition to the Back rack, enabling us to carry our e-bikes. They fit on easily do a good job of keeping the bikes planted on the rack. Though I've only had them a short time, they seem to made made of durable metal.

My only nit about them and the reason I gave it 4 stars is that they can't be ordered with the bike rack and you have to remember to order TWO sets to completely replace the originals.

by:

It’s a shame that the fat tire saddles can’t be an either-or purchase. Now I have a set for the trash can. Why not make the fat tire saddles the standard and the skinny saddles the option? The fat tire set will work for all tires. It would have been nice if the the 2” tube was another 3” or 4” longer so the handle bars on the bike had a little more clearance from hitting the back side of the camper. The hold down hoops could have been a little bigger. The cross members on a lot of electric bikes are pretty wide as most Ebikes store their batteries their

by:

Rack was delivered early in time for us to take on our camping trip. Assemble was straight forward however I encountered a few challenges when putting our 2 e-bike on it. I’d wanted to put my fat tire bike on the inside since it is considerably heavier than my wife’s Trek. Unfortunately the handlebar of my bike touched the rear window of my 5th wheel so I had to switch positions. To get the hooks to fit properly I had to switch the long and shorts hooks. When all was done, everything worked great. I did try to fold up the rack but couldn’t get the pin to come through. I didn’t want to force it so I’ll work on that problem when I get back home.

This Fat Tire Adapter Kit from Swagman is a must if you purchase a Fat Tire Bike. Same quality you expect from Swagman and eTrailer. It will also allow you to carry your regular size tire bike without switching back and forth. **It would be nice if Swagman offered a key locking option for the Fat Tire Adapter. eTrailer is easy to order from by phone and website. It's always a pleasure to buy from eTrailer, no surprises, just quick service and quality.

The Fat Tire Kit is GREAT! No problems after weekly uses. eTrailer is a great supplier.

I use the product every time I load my E-bike to ride in the Parks in NJ.. thank You so much for filling my cycle needs... JVC

by:

My first bike rack is a swagman, only fit standard size tires. One of my bikes has 4 inch fat tires so I had to buy the fat tire adapter kit for my new bike rack. The bike rack was easy assembly, and the fat tire accessory cat fit like a glove. This rack easily carries my 85 pounds fat tire bike and a 60 pound electric bike together. this is a good rack for the price.

by:

These fat tire carriers work very well with the two electric bikes we own. we have had to adapt the previous small tire carriers and now have a safer way of transporting our bikes on the back of our 5th wheel trailer. Tell Lori it was worth the wait.

With some adjustments I recently discovered, the fat tire cradles work exceptionally well. We have no trouble transporting our two 65 pound each bikes with fat tires on the back of our 5th wheel trailer.

by:

While this order started off with a shipping mistake, I must say that the response and actions taken to correct the issue were completely first class. I received the parts and my new fat tire e-bike is secure on the back of my RV.

by:

Fat tire cradles work well. The only negative -reason for not 5 star is that the cradles attach to the bar with a turn style tightener. There needs to be a end cap on the rail so that it cannot come off. We tightened it as much as possible (without damage) and it actually came off the end and we almost lost/damaged our juiced e-bike. It was not a good day but we were going slow and in town so no damage occurred. Now we are always in fear it will happen going down the road. Bikes are too expensive to lose one due to a poor design.

One thing we recommend if your bikes are having a hard time staying stable, is to use some stabilizing straps, like part # 18050.

Great

by:

The fat tire adapter works great for my 4"fat tire ebikes. I am very pleased. I only wish Swagman gave you the option of this item rather than the smaller item that comes standard when ordering the hitch. We shouldn't have to spend an extra $100 to be able to use the rack with fat tire bikes.

by:

they are very solid we have only used on our truck, but believe it will work well on TT.

by:

Plastic ratchet straps are NOT UV stabilized. The metal parts are sturdy and well-made. However, the plastic parts are NOT UV stabilized. My ratchet straps (used to secure the bike to the metal shoe) disintegrated in less than a year. You can order more straps from Swagman (SKU P495) for $[x]each but, the shipping is a minimum of $[xx]. One would think that a bike rack designed for use outdoors would have plastic parts that are UV stabilized.

by:

I ordered these when Swagman's more traditional 'wheel hoops' for fat bikes was out-of-stock. These are considerably more money, but they are heavily built, and work very well. Communication with trailer was absolutely stellar. So professional, competitive shipping rates; they are always on top of their game! Note: Installing these on a Swagman XTC2, you can no longer fold up the arms on the bike carrier. The wheel trays hit the center post.

by:

These wide tire brackets are great. They fit my Lectric e-bike 1.0 perfectly. It is unfortunate that you can’t choose the size you need when you purchase the Swagman E-Spec bike rack because now I have a set of regular tire size that are only taking up space.

by:

Works as advertised. Fits nicely on the Swagman E-Spec bike rack. I had some issues keeping the tire adaptors from moving on the bike rack, but, after a minor mod to the rack, adding a screw to prevent the fat tire adaptor from falling off the end of the rack, all was well.

by:

Perfect match for the Swagman G10 bike rack if you have a fat tire bike. At the same time, it will accommodate skinny wheels/tires when you need to in an emergency. Overall a great product.

by:

These are a great fit for my Sondors fat tire e-bike. Traveled hundred if not thousand of miles with out 2 e-bikes without incident. The straps work great at keeping the tires where they should be.

by:

Like the rack, seems very solid with no wobble, however, you should be able to order with wide tire tracks rather than paying xx.xx for the fat tire model and end up with four tire tracks you have no use for. It's just a way to get [more money] out of fat tire bike customers.

by:

The only reason for three stars is that the rack only comes with cradles for tires up to 3.5. The fat tire cradles are sold separately so now we have skinny tire cradles that won’t be used. It would be nice if Swagman gave the Custer a choice or a combination of cradles when their rack is sold. It cost us an extra $100 because we will be carry two fat tire bikes. It’s not eTrailers policy. The Swagman website is the same. The product is outstanding however!

by:

We have 3" tires and they fit in the standard holders that come with the hitch. We ordered these to be safe and actually returned them. But if you have 4" tires these would be required.

by:

These trays fit my fat tire bike perfectly . They are well-made! I am very happy and impressed with the Swagman bike rack, and now that it can accommodate my fat tire bike, it's even better! Great, prompt service from the etrailer.com folks !

by:

It would have liked an option from Swagman to purchase either the Fat Tire Adapters or the Regular Tire cradles when buying the bike rack. Now I have a set of regular cradles that I will never use. But this is a Swagman issue.
The company, etrailer, was a pleasure to work with and order from. I will continue to use etrailer in the future.

by:

These were to replace one that mysteriously disappeared from my swagman ebike rack! I only needed one but they were only sold in sets of two, unfortunately. That said, the folks at etrailer were, as always, very helpful, and the parts were received promptly.

  • Will the Hollywood Racks RV Rider Clear My Spare Tire on My Jeep Wrangler?
Yes! Our part number # HLY64FR is the same as the Hollywood Racks part number HR1700. These both correspond to the Hollywood Racks RV Rider. As far as clearing your spare tire on your Jeep Wrangler, there is a definite way to tell if you have enough clearance with the rack installed on your hitch (if you have a hitch receiver). Since the shank of the RV Rider measures 7-1/2" from the center of the shank's pinhole to the closest part of the rack, you have the ability to make a measurement...

You have a great eye. Both the Swagman E-Spec # S94FR and the Swagman Current # S64678 are super strong bike racks that are constructed for brute strength. This is because Swagman wanted both of these racks to be approved for use when attached to the back of motorhomes/RVs. However, the E-Spec has the advantage of strength because not only can the E-Spec withstand the extra force/torque exerted on it on the back of a motorhome/RV, it also can withstand the increased force when mounted on...

With that being said, that will reduce your trailer's hitch to only 65 pounds of available tongue weight.
